Subtleties

Following the incident, our interests veered to other stories. Dog-eared books and round framed spectacles began to pile on our bedsides. When we spoke it was in exaggerated interest of the weather, of our jobs, and or of anything and everything that no longer paired our experiences as one.

Alas, the difference between our relationship before and after was as subtle yet immense as that between ‘how are you?’ and ‘I hope you are well.’
